We Christians also suffer from our own sins and stupidities. When self-centredness and pride wreck a Christian marriage, the pain is caused by sin. When a Christian teen-ager drives off an ICY ROAD at ninety miles an hour, he burns to death from his own flaming folly. If we are NOT IMMUNE from the COMMON SUFFERING OF HUMANITY, we can certainly demand no special protection from the consequences of our asinine self-will. WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE FIRE BURNS. Guardian Angels - yes; but asbestos robed saints - NO.
Again, Christians SUFFER BY WAY OF DISCIPLINE. If we accept God's discipline with HUMBLE, BELIEVING HEARTS, our lives grow PURER and our faith stronger. Count it all joy, my brethren, write James, when you MEET VARIOUS TRIALS, for you know that the TESTING of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that YOU MAY BE PERFECT AND COMPLETE, lacking in nothing..(Jas. 1:2-4)
To grasp the secret of disciplinary suffering is to experience a TRANSFORMATION. Your bewilderment and dismay turn to joy.
